Building the Future: An Exciting New Chapter Unlocked for Locus Lock

News – Building the Future: An Exciting New Chapter Unlocked for Locus Lock

December 2024: Locus Lock is revolutionizing positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) technology with secure Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning solutions trusted by commercial and defense industries. Since spinning out of the Radionavigation Lab at the University of Texas, Austin with proven technology in May 2023, we’ve made incredible progress, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without the generous support of our investors, advisors, early customers, and teammates.

It is with great excitement that we can share today that Locus Lock has closed an oversubscribed round of funding. We’re proud to have the financial support of notable investors AIN Ventures, Aurelia Foundry, Creations VC, Jolt VC, ffVC, Techstars, and the University of Texas Seed Fund. We have also received a matching investment through the form of an Advanced Industries Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant from the Colorado Office of Economic and Development and International Trade (OEDIT).

Sherman Williams, managing partner of lead investor AIN Ventures shared more on the investment, “Locus Lock represents the best combination of deep technical expertise and market readiness. Their transition from academic innovation to commercial application, particularly in critical sectors like autonomous mobility, made this a compelling investment opportunity for us.”

We plan to use the funds to kick start our product development and pilot deployments, establish customer acquisition and retention capabilities, and scale our production and manufacturing operations.

Driving what’s next

The rise of automated and autonomous vehicles across industrial, commercial, military, and aerospace are driving the demand for precise and secure PNT solutions.

Locus Lock was founded to ensure safe mobility anywhere including on the ground, in the air, and in space leveraging our cutting-edge positioning technology. Our software-defined GNSS receiver technology maintains high reliability and accuracy in challenging conditions, such as in urban environments or in the presence of GPS interference (e.g., spoofing and jamming), at a price point that enables mass market adoption.

We have already deployed numerous high-performance units, established strategic partnerships and secured R&D contracts with the Department of Defense, and have already started pilot programs with customers in the defense and aerospace industries.

The closing of this funding round is the next big step on our journey and will allow us to further commercialize and meet the demand of a $200 billion market where positioning accuracy is critical.

Building in Colorado

Colorado awarded Locus Lock a grant to further commercialize and develop our precise positioning technology, fostering innovation and contributing to the state’s economic growth. These grants help promote the growth and sustainability of advanced industries in Colorado and drive public-private partnerships that move the state’s economy forward.

Colorado itself is an important part of our story and we are constantly reminded why it’s the ideal place to establish our headquarters.

  • We have access to a highly skilled and growing talent pool, especially in technology and engineering.
  • Colorado has a unique blend of innovation-friendly policies and quality of life, which attracts top-tier professionals.
  • There is a burgeoning ecosystem for startups, with access to supportive networks, incubators, and investors.

As a young company, we are proud to be contributing to and growing the local economy. It’s through economic development and grant programs that Colorado is being increasingly recognized as a national and global leader in advanced industries.

Looking Ahead

We’re already deploying paid customer pilot deployments that allow us to test, iterate, and ultimately mature our product. We are generating revenue by selling our software-defined GNSS solutions in the market today, and will continue to scale. Our devices are American made and manufactured, and we plan to ramp up production over the next year.

With 2024 coming to a close, let us end on a final note of appreciation for our investors, the community, early adopters, and our team. We want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your contributions to our success — your trust and belief in our vision empowers us every day.
